Gary has just supervised the latest VW Golf commercial for Ivan Zacharias on behalf of The Mill.

The commercial shows VW Golf’s chief engineer getting attacked by earlier instances of himself representing earlier versions Golf’s that they have designed….5 earlier versions, 6 in total.

Lead Flame artist Andrew Wood at The Mill wanted this ad not to have any head replacement as frankly, having done masses of it over the years, wasn’t a fan of both the workload and more importantly… the results.

There are minor instances where heads have been replaced in this spot but the majority of VFX have been accomplished by combining multiple plates of the main guy acting out the different engineers and stitching them together along lines through the body and arms etc, well away from the head.

The finished piece shows heads attached to their respective shoulders and bodies.
